A Message from the President

Welcome to the NJACAC webpage! Whether you are a current member or someone considering joining our organization, the hope is that our webpage provides you with the information and resources that you are seeking.

It is a great honor to serve you as NJACAC President for 2018-2019. The group of professionals that comprises this organization is among the most diverse that you will ever see with a wealth of knowledge and experience. The world of college admissions is constantly changing and it does so at such a quick pace but never feel like you have to rush to keep up because the NJACAC is here to provide you with the resources to keep you up-to-date on what is happening in our profession. Whether it is through our social media channels, Professional Development workshops, or our annual conference, the NJACAC strives to be at the lead of what is happening in the world of college admissions.

As we enter another year of the Coalition application, changes to the rules on how our undocumented students enter their post-secondary educational options, and always-changing world of educational policy at all levels, local, state, and national, let us continue to work together to empower each other as professionals so that we can then empower the students we work with to take on their next steps with confidence.

This year, I will be working with an executive board that the membership has elected and I am honored to work with to carry out the framework of preceding executive boards while also creating our own footprint toward success for this association. We will continue to bring you our long-standing programs like Basics, Camp College, and College Key. Our Summer College Bus Tour returns for another run with more institutions on the itinerary for 2018! We will continue to contribute our share to the two national college fairs, in Atlantic City in the fall and Secaucus in the spring and we also hope to bring a national STEM fair to the Garden State as well. Let’s not forget our always successful regional fairs too! Those will continue better than ever as we look to implement scanning technology to make these fairs more effective for students and our higher education institutions. Our new website continues to be amazing and along with our social media channels on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn, we look to be as transparent as possible with everything that we do.

There is no NJACAC without…YOU. I cannot implore you enough to not only join our organization but become involved! All it takes is one email to me, president@njacac.org. I want to get to know our members, hear your ideas, and then see how we can get things done in the interest of our profession and the students we work with. At the 2018 Annual Conference, I was awesomely gifted an NJACAC Championship belt. I take that title of champion to heart. As NJACAC President, let me be your champion to work together for the betterment of our profession and to best service the students we work with.

So let’s get to work! Email me at president@njacac.org or feel free to tweet me personally at @EM_CarlosC! Looking forward to working for you as President and with you as a colleague!

Carlos Cano
