Welcome back!! Whether you are fresh off of a vacation for a week or two or coming back to your office after an entire summer of rest and relaxation, welcome back! Back to another cycle of working with students who are seeking our help and guidance in taking their next step in life. NJACAC hopes that throughout this year, it will be able to provide you with the resources you need to be able to carry out your duties to the best of your abilities. With this in mind, NJACAC has a variety of upcoming events coming up that will help to facilitate the important work we all do.

Our “ABCs of College Planning” publication is continuing its major revision period. The committee has been reviewing the entire publication, from start to finish, to ensure it is up-to-date and accurate in providing information to those who consume it. The next steps will include a new design layout and the possibility of producing it in both a hard copy and electronic format, making it a more versatile resource that students and counselors can use. This project can still use your feedback and help! If you are interested in contributing to the revision of the ABCs of College Planning, please email abc@njacac.org

This fall, NJACAC will host, in conjunction with local school counseling associations, 4 Regional College Fairs across the state of New Jersey. These fairs will bring out approximately 100 colleges and universities from all over the country. The NJACAC Regional Fairs are open to the public and you can find more information about them by clicking above, including registration information if you are a college admissions officer/representative. Here is the schedule of fairs for this fall:

  • Morris County Regional Fair – Sunday, September 16th; County College of Morris, 12pm-3pm
  • Monmouth County Regional Fair – Sunday, October 14th; Monmouth University, 1pm-4pm
  • Hudson County Regional Fair – Friday, October 26th, 2018; St. Peter’s University, 10am-12pm
  • Freehold Township Regional Fair – Tuesday, October 30th; Marlboro High School, 6pm-8pm

One of the fascinating aspects of our work is how it evolves so quickly. Fortunately, your membership with NJACAC will never make you feel like you need to play catch-up. This year, as we have done for the past several year, our Fall Kickoff will be hosted by Rider University on Thursday, October 18th from 2pm-5pm where some of the top minds in college admissions will gather on a panel to discuss current trends in college admissions. This program is free for all current NJACAC members and $50 for non-members.

Speaking of membership, our Membership Committee sent all current members a brief survey to inquire more about your thoughts about NJACAC Membership Perks & Benefits. Please take a few moments to complete this survey which also puts you into a drawing for a $25 Amazon Gift Card! If you have any Membership related questions, do not hesitate to e-mail our Membership Committee Chairs, Marianna Marchese and Melissa Zolla at membership@njacac.org.

Recently, NACAC unveiled their new membership structure which is set to be voted on at the national conference in Salt Lake City by the General Membership during its meeting on Saturday, September 29th at 2:30pm in Hall D of the Salt Palace Convention Center. In brief, NACAC’s new Membership Structure attempts to consolidate on membership categories and make membership dues more equitable across the board. In early discussions regarding the new structure, current members from across the country have provided feedback on various areas of the new structure that initially raised concerns among NACAC’s Membership. Should you have any particular questions or concerns regarding NACAC’s new Membership structure, please do not hesitate to contact me at president@njacac.org with those items. The NJACAC delegation will be heading to Salt Lake City in a few weeks to serve as your voice in the General Assembly.

While Salt Lake City is on our minds, I know that we will have a pretty large contingent in town for #NACAC18. Please be sure to join us on Thursday, September 27th at 4:45pm in Room 255B of the Salt Palace Convention Center for a NJACAC Meet & Greet! All current members will receive 2 drink tickets and appetizers! Come by, say hello, and have a drink or two on us as a symbol of appreciation for your membership! Make sure you also attend the General Membership meeting during the conference, on Saturday, September 29th at 2:30pm.

Time certainly does fly! Here we are in September, well into the start of our respective cycles. Hope that everyone has a wonderful start to the academic year and even better academic year overall! Looking forward to seeing many of you out and about at the various events we have coming up!
